I was reading the FP and clicked on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Aside from beating a dead horse as far as subject matter goes, there wasn't much new there except to highlight that first is where the airlines make their profit. It is. A lot of coach is barely break even. The fact that first makes a profit means that it justifies that route existing at all. Anyway, I was going to respond when I realized that the post came from Jez. I don't need that kind of grief. Louis CK sums up my feeling on the subject pretty well.

Worthy point. SW has had a remarkable run. You do have to take into account what they are though. They are a highly focused domestic airline. They don’t have international reach beyond the Americas and might never have it unless something dramatically changes. Their exclusive use of the 737 platform allows them to control costs to a large degree on maintenance, but hems them in on what they can do. Other savings come from their stance on labor, some good decisions on fuel hedging and good marketing. While comparing SW to the international domestic carriers isn’t exactly apples to oranges it is certainly Fuji to Golden Delicious. There are notable differences that go beyond the color on the outside. Besides, the point of the Jez post is that first class is elitist. It doesn’t offer too much in the way of how to make things better those in back aside from having a fresh crossword. So, how does having everyone fly in coach improve things beyond spreading the misery to a wider group? I’ve flow SW and their in-flight product isn’t that different than the rest. They just get more people on the plane due to the coach configuration.
